Job Overview

Naugatuck Youth Services, Inc., a nonprofit Youth Services Bureau serving the community of Naugatuck, seeks a full-time Executive Director.

The Executive Director is responsible to the Board of Directors in carrying out the mission and operations of the agency, for the overall financial health of the agency, agency compliance with all mandates and regulations, developing a strategic plan and leading a staff to achieve mission impact in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Explore resources based on a contemporary needs assessment in order to provide leadership in the development and functions of the program.
  • Represent the agency to the public, other agencies, community organizations, government, press and potential donors.
  • Work with the Board to develop a strategic plan consistent with the mission, vision and values based on the needs of the community
  • Reports to and is responsible to the Board for carrying out the mission and operations of the agency.
  • Researches, develops and secures grants to fulfill business strategy and annual targets aligned with organizational mission.
  • Responsible for ensuring implementation of applicable law, and state and federal mandates and regulations including financial, corporate compliance, employment and licensing/accreditation requirements.
  • Works in collaboration with the agency’s Board of Directors and Chair in the development and functioning of the board and board committees.
  • Responsible for daily operations i.e. internal compliance, policy and protocol management, including overall financial health of the agency.
  • Directs and coordinates formulation of financial management to provide funding for new or continuing operations.
  • Promotes internal and external service collaboration.
  • Represents the agency at external meetings to maximize program effectiveness and results.
  • Reviews financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives and revises objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions.
  • Plans and develops policies designed to improve the agency’s image and relations with customers, employees and the public.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in direct human service, child development or a related field with comprehensive knowledge of youth services and juvenile justice system.
  • Prior leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience and Google docs.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Public Health or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.

Competencies

  • Knowledge of youth service programs, independent judgement and initiatives in implementing various programs.
  • Collect data, evaluate, and monitor programs and activities.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable federal/state laws and regulations regarding agency business.
  • Competence in prioritizing agency needs, managing the financial health of the organization and ensuring quality youth care through staff.
  • Maintain composure under pressure.
  • Plan both in the long and the short-term considering the goals, challenges and changes that exist in the organization. This will include projected decision-making on deployment of staff and resources.
  • Effective problem solving skills, including ability to generate unique solutions to challenging problems.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Collaborate, form partnerships and teams with internal and external people/organizations.
  • Effectively provide administrative and management staff supervision to maximize and performance and productivity.
  • Ensure that the guidelines for maintaining security and confidentiality of youth information and records are followed by staff and any other agency required to access such records.
  • Demonstrated awareness/sensitivity towards culturally and ethnically diverse youth populations served by the agency.
  • Must be available in the evenings as needed

Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
